The piñon pine was chosen to represent Piñon Family Medicine as it exemplifies growth, health, nutrition and outreach. Piñon species are hardy, withstanding droughts in the high desert, strong sweeping winds and rain, as well as deep freezing winter temperatures. Historically, the edible pine nuts have been used as a food source for many people groups. In the environment, the roots of these trees enriches the nutrients in the soil in which they grow benefiting the other plant life nearby. We strive to follow this model, spreading "roots" to benefit our community in Chandler, Arizona.
